Many Ghanaians do not have access to clean drinking water. The lack of a safe, reliable source of water is a major contributor to many diseases including Guinea worm, trachoma and diarrhoeal diseases. According to Unicef “Diarrhoeal diseases account for 18 per cent of deaths among children under five years of age worldwide, or an estimated 1.7 million child deaths every year – making them the second most common cause of child deaths globally.”
During our practice Ghana, we will deal with many cases of water-borne disease.
